Maria has lost the final in Miami 3-6 5-7 to Kim Clijsters of Belgium in a match time of 1 hour and 39 minutes.
The wind played a huge factor throughout the match with both players having a lot more errors than winners (Maria 18-34 Clijsters 10-30).
This is something that Maria needs to work on as she hasn't had that much experience of playing in the wind as you could tell with her shot selection, for example throwing in dropshots against a very speedy player like Clijsters. This is only Maria's second loss in a final in her very short WTA career.
Maria will remain at number three in the rankings, behind world number one Lindsay Davenport of the U.S. and France's Amelie Mauresmo.
