She finally did it! Eighteen year old teen queen Maria Sharapova became world #1 for the first time in her young career.



Next week she'll take part as worlds best in the last Grand Slam of the season, the US open.



Maria is the 15th #1 since the rankings were introduced in 1975. She is also the first ever player from Russia to reach the top spot.

Congratulations Maria!!
