Russia's Maria Sharapova lost her top place in the Women Tennis Association (WTA) ratings to American Lindsay Davenport, who won last week's WTA tennis tournament in Zurich, Switzerland.
Sharapova, 18, has fallen to third place with 4419.00 points, after Belgium's Kim Clijsters (4467.00 points), according to the RIA Novosti news agency.
Sharapova, who left her homeland 11 years ago to pursue her career in the United States, shares the WTA top ten with fellow countrywomen Yelena Dementieva, ranked 8th, and Nadezhda Petrova, ranked 10th.
Earlier this month in Moscow, Sharapova crashed out of the Kremlin Cup tournament after losing to Dinara Safina in the quarterfinal.
