Top seed and defending champion Maria Sharapova overpowered Australia's Samantha Stosur 6-1 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open on Friday.
The 18-year-old Russian raced through the first set and survived sustained pressure from Stosur in the second to wrap up victory in 69 minutes.
World number four Sharapova will meet four-time Tokyo winner Martina Hingis for the first time in the Pan Pacific Open semi-finals. Hingis beat Maria Kirilenko of russia in 2 sets: 6-2 6-1.
