Maria Sharapova has been forced to withdraw from next week's Istanbul Open because she has failed to recover from a right ankle injury. The 19-year-old had originally replaced Lindsay Davenport, who is also injured.

Sharapova, who won the Indian Wells tournament earlier this year, was unable to play in the WTA tournament in Rome this week because of the injury.

The 2004 Wimbledon champion also has an ingrowing toenail.

oh girl, not again. its agony not being able to see you play. but just a word of advice,if you ever happen to read these commetns, please dont wear high heels during the tennis season. you were wearing shoes the whole year and now you were probably wearing heels for the last month and a half. stay away from them. i think you will recover quicker. i want to see you succeed. just a thought. hope you get well.
