Most likely candidate to win Wimbledon?

Posted by: Marco

Positive thinking and the prospect of some retail therapy lifted Maria Sharapova’s spirits after her Wimbledon semifinal defeat by Amelie Mauresmo.

Sharapova, the 2004 champion, suffered her fifth Grand Slam semifinal defeat in succession when she lost 6-3 3-6 6-2 to the world number one on Centre Court but refused to be downcast.

“It’s definitely not a setback,” the 19-year-old said. “I take every loss as a new beginning. It teaches me a lot.

“I’m going to go back on the court and I’m going to work. I’m going to keep working until I get better at those things.

“Sometimes talk is cheap. It’s a matter of going out and doing it. In a few days I’ll be back on the practice courts and that’s what it’s all about.”

Sharapova was outplayed tactically by Mauresmo in the third set and unforced errors cost her dearly.

“I just made a lot of errors coming in,” said the Russian. ”She forced me to come in, forced me to hit a good approach shot, tried to make me hit a good volley.

“Obviously there’s a lot of things that I’m going to need to improve to beat the top players. It shows when you play against top players.”

Asked what she planned to do now she was out of the tournament, Sharapova’s eyes brightened. “I’m going to head out to (clothing retailer) Top Shop tomorrow,” she said. “I’m going to go on a shopping spree. I look forward to that every single year.”

I'm here. The press clearly reported that Masha was rattled by the streaker in the quarterfinal against Dementieva. Maria has paid her dues and knows all the shots and already proved two years ago that she can be number one if she is given a fair chance.

Maria,
I believe hard work and successful accomplishments are results from a positive thinking and attitude towards overcoming challenges. You are a winner when you decide to face the up coming tournaments with your head up!

You are a great tennis player, but you have a different style than Maresmo. Once I saw that you two were paired up I knew it would be interesting as you both have VERY different styles. You play with grace and class. Mauresmo plays with toughness and somewhat manliness. I'm sorry to say that you lost, but in the US Open I know you will be great.

kris you are a f**** idiot, how can you say that about mauresmo. i really do not like sharapova, i think she and her stupid dad are a bunch of cheaters. thats why no good will come to a person like that. after she won wimbledon, she just let it get to her head way up there, doesnt realize there are other players who can and have beaten her. i cant wait for someone to complain about her stupid ridiculous grunting, everyone is talking about it, they hate that about her, shes a mensa, glad for that guy who went and danced infront of her, see how she likes that distraction. she will not win the us open, not unless everyone else comes downn with bird flu. oh for the record, mauresmo is the one that plays with grace and style, sharapova sounds like someone is f*****in the bud. LOLO-

ok, maria. i got a great idea. i heard you are going home to Bradenton and i think you should and take a load off your mind and body. take it easy and dont listen to the media for a while. chillax and have fun! have a good couple of weeks off even though the weather is crudy here in Florida. maybe i will see ya around. but unfortunately, i doubt it. Go Maria and best of wishes in San Diego!

no kris actually to disapoint you i am not, and to your blind eyes neither is mauresmo, you just dont like the truth being told. no good is going to come to someone like that who thinks she is above the world, all talk and grunting but no action. she has absolutely no tactic when playing someone none and even the experts will say that. im glad im raising eyebrows here, you just dont like the fact that the B*****is no good dirty and see past that. kris dream on all of you, when she looses at the us open you will see me back here doing what i do best talking about the cheater. mauresmo to you may be ugly with no game style what so ever but hey who has the wimbledon tittle dumbass LOL

grunting and a stupid ass dad will never get her a slam tittle....

ok, both lupe and kris are way off. lupe, kris never made fun of her skills. but, he should not say she is ugly. thats not cool. but, mauresmo does have mannish features. i believe if Austin Powers were here he would say, "Its a man baby!" others have told me this as well. but i take nothing away from her tennis skills. she has finally found them at the age of 27. hm, 27. i believe Maria won Wimbledon at 17. so that needs some credit and Mauresmo won at the Australian Open cause Henin-Hardene left with abdominal cramps. so Mauresmo finally cemented herself with the Wimbledon win. also, the cheating thing. um, the announcer pointed out in the round of 16 that Flavia Pennetta's coach flashed a sign of coaching and it wasnt detected. so other players and coaches do it too. its just Yuri got caught. Yuri just sometimes gets carried away cause he wants to see her win like she wants to win. you could find yourself doing it too you know. I am sure they are not the first or last to do it. and if it really helped, she would win every tournament. so i think both of you and kris need to give it a rest. respect your opponents! and also, lupe, i dont care for some players but i dont go on their site and bad mouth them. so, just spout to someone who cares. once again, respect your opponents.
