Sharapova drops out of Kremlin Cup

U.S. Open champion Maria Sharapova pulled out of the Kremlin Cup on Friday because of a right foot strain.

The second-seeded Russian beat Eketerina Bychkova in straight sets on Wednesday and should have faced Anna Chakvetadze in the quarterfinals on Friday.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to play today," Sharapova said.

"I felt pain in my right hip back in the hotel after my first match here.

" I couldn't practice and even walk yesterday. I have to pull out. I'm really disappointed but I have no choice."

On her debut at a home event last season, the then top-ranked Sharapova lost to Dinara Safina in the quarterfinals.

iskreno mi je zao zbog povrede. opet taj nesretni kup kremlja. opet drugo kolo kao i pro�le godine bi nesretno. na�alost. volio bih da konačno osvoji� turnir u zemlji gdje si rođena.javno i pred bogom i pred cijelim svijetom tvrdim da sve ostale teniserke mogu da osvoje turnir ako ti ne nastupa� na tom turniru. ali tako je lako osvajati turnire. i mauresmo i petrova i sve ostale su prema tebi jedno veliko ni�ta. jadan je svaki turnir bez tebe. �elim ti �to br�i oporavak i da ti ovo bude poslednja povreda u �ivotu. tebe je jednostavno nemoguće ne voljeti i ne obo�avati.čast mi je �ivjeti u vremenu u kome �ivi� i ti. sve najbolje maria!!!!!!
