Most likely candidate to win Wimbledon?

Posted by: Marco

Maria Sharapova outlasted Italy's Francesca Schiavone 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Pan Pacific Open.

Sharapova, playing in her first match since losing to Serena Williams in the Australian Open final, struggled with her serve. She finished with 17 double-faults.

"I always find it tough to get into a rhythm in my first match here," said Sharapova. "It took longer than I wanted but I'm happy to get the win."

The world's No. 1 women's player turned her game around after a courtside lecture from coach Michael Joyce during the break between the second and third sets.

"It all goes back to your serve," Joyce told Sharapova. "You've just got to get it together and find a way to win."

Sharapova said the chat with Joyce helped her to refocus.

"He just told me to keep fighting," said Sharapova. "I didn't play my best tennis in the second set or the first for that matter and he just told me to fight for every point."

Sharapova will face Japan's Ai Sugiyama on Friday. Sugiyama rallied to beat Russia's Maria Kirilenko 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In their only previous meeting, Sharapova beat Sugiyama in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2004.

17 unforced errors, that's 2 gems given away. I invite all true fans that they give the apinion on this.I can't let that tenis angel loses from low level players. Its terrible lose in the finals Australian open.it is a servis guilt today and in the finals in the australia.i think it is time that Pit Sampras train Maria. He got Best serve of all time. What do you think abot that.

ESTOY DE ACUERDO EN PARTE CON ZORANG. MARIA HA PASADO DE TENER UNOS D ELOS MEJORES SERVICIOS DEL CIRCUITO A NO CONFIAR EN LE. ES PRONTO PARA DECIR NADA, PERO DEBERIA HACER LA REFLEXION QUE HIZO EN 2006 TRAS WIMBLEDON. EN ESE VERANO MEJORO SU SAQUE, EN PRECISION Y PORCENTAJE Y GANO 4 TITULOS. MARIA, ESTO ES PARA TI, CONFIA EN TI MISMA, TIENES TU TENIS DENTRO. SOLO EJALO SALIR. A NOSOTROS NOS GUSTA TU TENIS Y CONFIAMOS EN TI

Hi Maria Sharapova!

If you want to play tennis - do it.
If you didnīt - donīt. Maybe you are no. # 1 at ATP, but it is only because of last years latest seasonīs with US Open-win a.s.o. The last three tournements, WTA Championship 2006, Australian Open and now TokyoIndoor Open, you are played like a player ranked as no. # 8 - 12. Sorry about that......And it hurts! :'(
