Maria, who was about to face defending Champion Amelie Mauresmo tonight in the semi finals of the Advanta Championships in Philadelphia, withdrew from the tournament.
Maria is still struggling with a strained right shoulder injury.
Maria hurt her shoulder two weeks ago at the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich. She aggravated the injury her quarterfinal Friday night against Alicia Molik.
"I am very disappointed to be able to continue the tournament because I played really well", declares Maria in the official statement of the WTA
