Maria Sharapova's short stay atop the rankings will end after the French Open.

Sharapova moved up from No. 2 when Justine Henin suddenly retired last month. After losing in the fourth round at Roland Garros, Sharapova will drop back down and there will be a new No. 1 -- current No. 2 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, No. 3 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia or No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia.

None of those three ever has won the French Open or been ranked No. 1.

The simplest scenario: If one wins the championship Saturday, she will take over the top spot when the new rankings are released Monday. Otherwise, either Ivanovic or Jankovic would become No. 1 by losing to anyone other than Kuznetsova in the final

It doesn't really matter if she will lost the number 1 spot after losing to Safina at Roland Garros, she will remain ed number one to me and to all her fans. I believe in her talent and soon she will become number one player tennis player in the world again. Maria is so young and I strongly believe that she will improve in her craft as a tennis player and soon she will win grand slam on the clay court. It's never too late for her to improve because we all know that she is a great player, a very tough and patient player. Let's give chance to the 3 players who will have the chance to be in the number one spot, anyway Maria did become number one and rankings doesn't really matter. She is a great player, she has proven her worth to be in the number one spot. And believe me, Maria will rise again, and she will be the number one tennis player in the world.

her lost to danira safina..was very frustating..especially to us,her fans..i taught she could play to the finals and retain her crown as the no. 1 in WTA..but eventhough she lost the game,,and eventually drop out the the no.1 seed..we expect that in the next tournament she can play her usual game..and regain her crown as the no.1 in WTA..

Ahora viene lo mejor del año para María. Veremos cuantos de los retos que tiene por delante se lleva al saco. Pero puede hacer historia: ya tiene el open australiano, Wimbledon y el US Open se adpatan muy bien a sus condiciones(y este año está rindiendo en todos los torneos a un alto nivel), luego los Juegos, la Fede Cup y el Masters.
No descarto que María lo gane todo.

dear maria, is it rue you are not playing the edbagston tournament? you must be hurting. please dont dwell on the paris lost too much as you have always done. am sure it is my imagination and my hurting for you, you will always be no. 1 for us here. you can do it again at wimbledon and then other tournaments. dont let anything affect you as a person , remember?

Don;t let this French thing bother you. You have done a outstanding job this year and you can take the rest of the year off, but then I will not be able to see you play, so don't.
