Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams have confirmed they will still visit Thailand to play an exhibition match despite the current crisis in the south.
Russian Sharapova will arrive in Bangkok tonight while Williams will arrive tomorrow. The pair will then play in the TAT Tennis Invitational 2005 in Chiang Mai on January 2.



The Deputy Prime Minister and the president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT), Mr Suwat Liptapanlop said the highly-anticipated game will go ahead ...

Maria easily won her second exhibition match in 2 days by defeating Angela Haynes of the United States 6-2, 6-1.


With this win Maria helped raise $218,000 for the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund.



Here is what Maria had to say after the win: "I served quite well and I got an advantage from my serve."


Maria will now take a 2 week rest and then Maria and Venus Williams will team up in doubles together December 31st in Chiang Mai. They will face Thai's Tamarine Tanasugarn ...

Maria defeated world #1 Lindsay Davenport of the United states 7-5 6-3 in her first match since she won the WTA Tour Championships.

Saturday Maria will play Angeles Haynes after Jennifer Capriati dropped out of the Hurricane Tennis Slam in Florida because of a right shoulder injury.

Jennifer Capriati dropped out of an exhibition charity match Saturday against Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova because of a right shoulder injury.



Angela Haynes, who reached the U.S. Open's third round as a wild card, will replace Capriati in the showcase match at the WTA Tour's Hurricane Tennis Slam.



Maria will also play a doubles match, she will team up with Maria Kirilenko and they will play Rennae Stubbs and Nicole Vaidisova.
