Teen queen Sharapova, third seeded for the upcoming tournament in Philadelphia has received a bye for the first round.

In the second round Maria will play either Jelena Kostanic of Croatia or a qualifier.


The first seed Maria can meet is Alicia Molik of Australia in the quarters. Molik upset Maria last week in the Swisscom Challenge final. Payback time!

Teen queen Sharapova will make her first appearance in the WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche, the Tour announced today.

Maria, coming off a final round performance at the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich last week, clinched a spot in the prestigious season-ending tournament November 10 - 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Championships singles winner will earn $1 million in prize money and a Porsche to donate to their favorite charity

Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova saw her hopes of a third consecutive WTA title dashed on Sunday in a surprise defeat by unseeded Australian Alicia Molik in the final of the Zurich Challenge.
