Maria to wear Tiffany Earrings at the French Open
Posted by: Marco

Tiffany & Co. today announced that Maria Sharapova, the world’s top-ranked player in women’s tennis, will wear Tiffany designer Elsa Peretti’s Wave earrings in 18K gold at the French Open, May 25-June 8, at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris.

In addition to the jewelry, Tiffany will accessorize Ms. Sharapova’s custom French Open tennis dress. The “Paris dress,” by Nike is a 1920s-inspired design that reflects her dynamic sense of style. Designed in collaboration with Sharapova, the performance Dri-Fit dress is dark obsidian blue with contrasting chalk white satin ribbons and double layered pleated skirt. The elegant, ultra-light creation is finished with a luminous Tiffany pearl button closure that fastens at the back of the dress.

Maria Sharapova regained the world number one position in women's tennis, when she topped the WTA women's tennis rankings released Monday. The Russian benefited from the retirement of last week's number one, Justine Henin and now leads the standings on 4,182 points, just 159 ahead of Serbian Ana Ivanovic.
Sharapova, who topped the prestigious ranking list two and a half years ago, was ranked second last week and moved up when the new list was published on Monday.

Maria Sharapova pulled out of Saturday's semifinal match at the Italian Open with a left calf injury.

The problem apparently developed while Sharapova was warming up for her match with defending champion Jelena Jankovic.

In Sunday's final, Jankovic will meet either sixth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze or French qualifier Alize Cornet, who were playing later.

Maria reaches Italian Open semis

Russia's Maria Sharapova advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA Rome International on Friday after staving off a stiff challenge from veteran Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, 6-7 (3/7), 7-5, 6-2.

The 21-year-old second seed, who will next week reclaim the world number one ranking following Justine Henin's retirement, moved into high gear to overcome a flagging Schnyder in the third set.

A match of breathtaking power also produced some of the most daring gambles, especially in the run-up to the first-set tiebreaker, when both players came up with daring drop shots.

Rome: third round interview

There are so many ways to find out the form. This is one of the ways, just to start a little bit slowly and then to find out, or you have some problems with your forehand or something?

MARIA SHARAPOVA:
No. I actually started good. Just in the middle of the match I had a little letdown. Actually not a little, quite big. You know, kind of a similar story to yesterday. I was just lucky to win that second set.
But taking away what she was doing on her side of net, from my point of view I thought there were just a lot of physical roller coaster rides. I'd put two or three good points together and then the level sort of dropped. But it's all right.
You know, good thing is I got a win and, you know, I can play another match tomorrow.
